John 6:47: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, he who believes in Me [who adheres to, trusts in, relies on, and has faith in Me] has (now possesses) eternal life.

We all know that this passage above was spoken by none other than Jesus the Son of God.

Many believe that when they believe in Him they have eternal life in the sweet by and by.

However; what exactly does the Word of God say?

It says, he who believes in the Son NOW POSSESSES ETERNAL LIFE!

To take it an elementary step further we look at the precise definition of possess which is: “have as belonging to one; own.”

1 John 5: 11– 12: And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

And this is that testimony (that evidence): God gave us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who possesses the Son has that life; he who does not possess the Son of God does not have that life.

Now we see that it is by possessing the Son of God that we have that life, and we possess that life NOW!

Whether trials be visibly present or not, the promise still remains.

When we are under attack and being persecuted, we are still in possession of this eternal life.

For it is there that we walk by faith and not by sight.

The enemy desires for us to believe his lie, in order that we may come under a curse, and be in disobedience to God.

The truth is the moment we possess the Son of God we possess eternal life!

John 10:10: The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

“The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).

Why would it say here, “The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy…”?

You see, you cannot steal something from someone that doesn’t own it, right?

He is attempting to take something that already belongs to us.

Why would it say he came to kill and destroy?

You cannot kill something that is already dead, or destroy something already destroyed!

Through possessing the Son of God we possess eternal abundant life now. It belongs to us and Jesus said, in John 10:28: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

…And no one is able to snatch them out of My hand.
