The Worship Of Intellectualism Is Idolatry.

Leaning on one's own understanding. When does it become a cult? When does it become idolatry?

Proverbs 3:5-6:
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Idolatry is the worship of anything other than God. We see this misplaced worship in our culture at large. It is nothing new. We make sacrifices to and serve that which we worship.

Do you worship intellectualism?

Many people attribute god-like power to the intellect, and such attribution makes this form of intellectualism a cult.  The intellect is just one of God's marvelous creations.  When intellectualism begins to mean that the human mind is the source of wisdom, understanding, and knowledge, intellectualism becomes idolatry and it is a cult.  The reality is that, since the fall, the intellect cannot be trusted.

We need the revelation that only comes from God.  The intellect invariably twists Scriptures and misinterprets observation, ending up in error and causing division.

For a Christian who is following Christ, Christianity is not a religion.  Christianity is an ongoing relationship.  It is an unfolding revelation of the living Christ.  Jesus is the only source of righteousness.  As we yield to Jesus, the Holy Spirit both leads us into righteousness and also produces the righteousness of God in us.  This leads to holiness and redemption.

Salvation is a process that begins with being born again and progresses from glory to ever increasing glory.

Salvation is by God's free gift and God's free gift is received through believing and receiving Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is love, so to receive Jesus is to receive love.  Love is righteousness and the fulfillment of the law.  When we yield to Jesus Christ, His love does His righteousness through us and fulfills all of God's law.  This is always in complete harmony with the King James Bible, God's written word.  This is the way in which we are born again into the Kingdom of God.  And this is the way in which we proceed from glory to glory to the manifestation of the sons of God, the redemption of our bodies, the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.

Receiving Jesus Christ is the solution to the basic human problems.

The Bible tells us that we are three-part beings, spirit, soul, and body.  The soul is the mind, heart, will, and life of the person.  Today, the battle is for the mind.

We were created to be joined to God.  When we are born again, we are joined to the Holy Spirit in the heavenly realm on the level of spirit.  Those who worship God must worship Him in Spirit and in truth, because God is spirit.  This is not a euphemism.

God is very concerned about our minds.  We are to allow the Holy Spirit to renew our minds so that we can be transformed (metamorphoo in Greek).  This transformation is the same transformation that Jesus displayed on the mount of transfiguration.  He called it His coming in glory, and Peter later wrote about it and called it the coming of Christ.  We are commanded to stand in His presence, to see Christ in our brothers and sisters, and to seek Him with everything that is within us.

The human mind was not created to operate outside of the anointing of God's Spirit.  However, we have a will.  We can direct our mind toward the earthly, toward our own understanding, toward doctrines of the devils of the prince of power of the air.

We can direct our mind toward Jesus.  We can look to Jesus to reveal the meanings of Scripture and then wait for Him to reveal.  We can jump in and create conjectures or fabrications and make up theologies - all based on Scripture of Intellectualism which is the worship of the human intellect.

One thing is certain.  No matter how intelligent a person is, God is not impressed.

Intelligence is not the same as wisdom.  All knowledge, wisdom, and understanding come from God as does all food, health, life, power, and everything else.

The beginning of wisdom is to receive Jesus Christ, fear God and honor God for all that He has given.

There are only two camps. The ability to "think well" is not one of the choices of camps for a person to choose from. We are either saved or we are not saved. We are either filled with the Holy Spirit or we are not filled with the Holy Spirit.

The idolatry of intellectualism leaves the soul unsatisfied, enslaved and craving more. It is an empty well.

Ephesians 2:8-9: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Being able to "think well" is works of the flesh. The Holy Spirit imparts wisdom to spirit filled believers. Intellectualism is the worship of information. Intellectualism is idolatry.

The novelty of newness of information in the worship of intellectualism never lasts as time is spent in nothing except telling or hearing something new.

Jesus divided all men into two battle camps. It is not possible to be neutral:

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. (Matthew 6:24)

Jesus said:
He that is not with me is against me... (Luke 11:23)

Jesus spoke of this great division in a story about two paths, one which was straight and narrow and one which was broad. He warned of the deception of Satan's broad path which many took (Matthew 7:13-14). Through the account of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31), Jesus removed the veil between life and death. He let men see the end result of choosing the wrong way.

Because He destroyed and exposed the works of Satan, Jesus was under assault throughout His earthly life. The enemy constantly tried to destroy Him or prevent Him from fulfilling the mission for which He had come.

Choose the narrow path. Beware of the worship of intellectualism and beware of idolatry.

2 Corinthians 10:5
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

All idolatry is ultimately based in ignorance. Paul thus engaged the ignorance of the culture and made known that what they worshiped was unknown. He introduced Jesus, the One on whom their minds and hearts could be satisfied. All righteousness and pleasure flows from Jesus, who is Himself both righteousness and joy.

Ignorance leads to empty emotionalism at best and idolatry at worst. Only a mind set on Jesus Christ will provide the fuel for the red-hot flame of the Holy Spirit’s presence within the furnace of our hearts. God is seeking those who worship the Father in both spirit and truth.

Jesus tells the woman at the well, in John 4:

7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.

8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)

9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.

10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?

12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.

16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:

18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.

26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

27 And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?

28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,

29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.

31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.

32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.

33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?

34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.

38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.

39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.

40 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.

41 And many more believed because of his own word;

42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

If you only knew who is offering such a gift and all that He sacrificed to give it, you would ask Jesus Christ in to your heart and life. Only Jesus can and will satisfy your soul. Jesus Christ is the living waters.

Jeremiah 7

5 For if ye throughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbour;

6 If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt:

7 Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.

23 But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

24 But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.

25 Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them:

26 Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers.

27 Therefore thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee.

28 But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the Lord their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.

We do have idolatry in America and it is sending thousands of people to Hell. It is called intellectual idolatry and it is destroying this nation. Americans worship their ideas and intellectual theories over God. Americans have forsaken the truths and principles of the King James Bible and are now following stubborn desires of their evil hearts.

We have reasoned in our own minds, that we know better then God how to govern our lives, raise our children and build our families. Multitudes have forsaken righteousness, integrity and ethics in pursuit of their own ideas. Our thoughts have become our gods and we are reaping the harvest of idolatry as our nation slips further and further away from God. It's time to forsake the idols of intellectualism, repent of a stubbornness which is idolatry and return to God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength.

Rationalism and intellectualism is a huge part of all the secularist cults.

The idea that the human mind is the source of all wisdom, understanding, and knowledge constitutes idolatry. In the final analysis, the concept of rationalism, which is the basis and foundation of what has been put on such a high pedestal, is simply fabrication. How strange to think that all the world has gone after the beast of "I made it up so it must be true." "It's a feasible story, so it must be true." How could they be so foolish to believe such an idea, yet there it is, being taught in all the great universities. God does not agree with the concept, which is sometimes referred to as intellectualism. He says that He is the source of all wisdom, understanding, and knowledge.

Do you worship God or the human mind (intellectualism)?
